On December 13, 2010, the U.S. Consulate General in Hyderabad will have a new phone number for all phone inquiries regarding nonimmigrant visas to the U.S. The change will provide improved customer service to nonimmigrant visa applicants. Applicants will benefit from a multi-lingual helpline and increased phone hours. The new number for all your nonimmigrant visa inquiries will be VFS Helpline at 0120 - 6611411 (Applicants calling from overseas need to add the India Country Code (+91) followed by 120-6611411). VFS Helpline will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding Consulate General holidays.
About the Consul General
Katherine Dhanani has been a Foreign Service Officer since 1990. Most recently she was the Deputy Chief of Mission in the U.S. Embassy in Harare.
Her previous posts include: Georgetown, Guyana, where she served as Economic Officer; Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, where she was the Embassy´s Consular Officer; Mexico City, Mexico, where she followed energy and mining issues in the Economic Section; Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo where she headed the Economic Section; Lusaka, Zambia where she served as Chief of the Political and Economic Section; and Libreville, Gabon where she was the Deputy Chief of Mission.
Ms. Dhanani trained as an Economist at Kenyon College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and taught economics at Grinnell College before joining the Foreign Service. She speaks French and Spanish.
Hours of Operation
The Consulate General of the United States of America operates from 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday, except on holidays.
The Office of Consular Affairs, for all visa related queries, may be contacted from Monday through Friday, between 9:00 am and 12:00pm and between 2:00pm and 4:00pm.
The American Citizen Services are available Monday to Friday from 12:30pm to 4:00pm, except on American and Indian holidays.
